Cecil Steeds
CECIL STEEDS
11th January 1929 – 30th December 2024
The death has been announced of Cecil Steeds, who played for Bristol City and Bristol Rovers during the post war period.
He initially joined City in 1945 and signed professional forms for the Ashton Gate club in March 1947, going on to appear in nine league games for them until, in May 1952, he signed for Rovers.
He appeared in our Third Round FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers in January 1954 but had to wait another three years before making his league debut, against Leicester City, when he became the 329th player to appear in league football for the club; it was the only league appearance of his Rovers career.
After leaving Eastville he played for Bath City and Chippenham Town before his retirement in May 1961. He later spent thirty years working for Robinsons Waxed Paper Company and continued to live in South Bristol.
Cecil, who was the oldest living City and Rovers player, would have celebrated his 96th birthday next week.
We send our condolences to his family and friends.
